Projects and major work in progress on members Capris

First here are the cars which have featured on this page over the last three years. Scroll down for cars which are undergoing work:

Owner Greg:

Capri: 1.6 Calypso 1982

Greg has a new project on at the moment. Following his rebuild of the gold 2.0 Sport, he's decided to go for something different.

Having already had a couple of Laser Capris, a 2.0 Sport and a 2.8i, he's now got hold of a rusty Calypso which was destined for the scrappy. As we all know, it'll cost a bomb to restore it, so he's going the other way! Santa Pod is calling and it going to be a sprint car, not to go back on the road.

The front wings/ panel & A posts have had it and the floor pan has decent rust problems. The sunroof is very rusty and the lacquer has lifted in places and paints gone flat. Alo there is a hole in the N/S/R arch. All in all a scrappable car. So all front panels have gone and all the oily bits on the fornt end have gone, along with the interior.

He's already rebuilt a 205 block, twin carbed 2.1 and now has the shell to put it in!

The car is to be as light as poss and as functional as poss. However, this isn't going to be a wallet busting track build, just some fun to whizz up the strip in on 6th June at Santa Pods' Classic Ford show.

Update:

All the welding is now done and the car lightened.

Spec:

Engine: 205 block with 1.75 overbore, new AE pistons, ARP con rod bolts, lightened and balanced crank and rods, 4kg flywheel with ARP bolts, high pressure oil pump, ally sump with modified baffle, Burton stage 3 head, Piper Cam 320 cam shaft, vernier pulley, gate powergrip timing belt, H&H ignition, twin Webber 50 DCO/SP carbs, Simpson 4 into 1 race manifold. Obvioulsy not been on rolling road yet, but should be good to push 200bhp+.

Interior: Steering wheel, clocks, pedals, gear knob, 5ltr fuel cell and thats it!

Exterior: Fibreglass wings, bonnet, front panel, polycarb windows and painted signal yellow.

Wheels: Standard steels with Hoosier drag slicks on the rear, rear brakes with line lock.

Suspension: Standard with four link kit.

Mantra: Its built to go bloody fast and if its not needed, its coming off!!

May 22nd update:

The car is now fully welded up, perspex windows installed, GRP front panels, only necessary wiring, the interior is painted matt black while the outside is yellow. The engine bay is now ready for the above lump to be dropped in and the back axle is to have anti-tramp bars fitted. There is the question of ride height, but as this build has been done purley on a very low budget, we'll see what June the 6th brings. Photographs have not been put on the site at Gregs request as he wants to sjow thefinished job at the Pod. However, this is a budget build in his garage, but I must say it certainly looks the aprt!

June 9th Update:

Due to circumstances the car wasn't ready for the Pod, but will be taken up there in the next few weeks for testing.

Still no more pics unfortunately.
